Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Fred Schaffner, PhD

Posted by Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni on May 17th, 2018.

Dr. Fred Schaffner is a Professor at the Universidad del Turabo, where he teaches Environmental Science and Biology courses and conducts extensive research. With over 30 years of experience in the field, he is a highly lauded and published author in Ecology and environmental science, and lectures to both undergraduate and graduate level students.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from California Polytechnic University of Pomona, Fred went on to complete a Master of Biology at San Diego State University. In 1988, he completed his doctorate in Biology from the University of Miami. He was inspired to enter his profession by a Marvin Gaye song that extolled issues of the social and ecological impact of the Vietnam War.

Looking ahead, Fred wants to promote graduate education programs within Puerto Rico. He credits his success to having a lifelong passion for science, a strong belief in something, and not being afraid of hard work.  He is proud of all his students, especially those who have gone on to complete their own PhDs.

In his spare time Fred likes to bird watch, scuba dive and fly.  He also volunteers with Catholic Charities.

Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Member Fred Schaffner, PhD can be found on the Association Directory, where he is looking forward to networking with you.
