Biography

Bruce Alan Beal is a savvy, accomplished focus group researcher who opened his own firm, Beal Research, 6 years ago. He oversees research for marketing, public policy, and other areas as a direct service provider. Mr. Beal developed his firm around his expertise in Mixed Methodology Focus Group Research, utilizing Audience Response technology. Mr. Beal was originally in the engineering industry years ago, and decided that he liked working with people more than objects, and truly enjoys conversation. He got a job in Chicago with a focus group company working on social science projects, and at first it was just a job, but then it evolved into much more, as he recognized his own natural talent for working in this industry. When the economic downturn occurred, he was laid off from a large research firm, so within days he had established his own firm, and he has discovered how much he enjoys being a solo operator. Regarding his educational background, Mr. Beal received a Masters in Sociology from Vanderbilt University in 2000, and a Bachelors with distinction, with a dual major in Political Science & Public Policy from IUPUI- Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in 1996. He is involved with the American Society of Trial Consultants, the MRA- Market Research Association, and he is also a Lifetime Member of Indiana University Alumni Group. Mr. Beal's approach to running his firm centers on the adaptability that he cultivated at the engineering firm where he worked. Starting in the late 80's, the software and hardware would change every couple of years, so in order to succeed, you really had to be able to adapt. Mr. Beal also feels that having the ability to be happy in adaptability has been the key to his success. Indeed, he has learned that change is the only constant, although he thinks it's hard for a lot of humans to keep changing. Thus far his constant focus on adaptability, consistently updating his skill set, and evolving his business model. His prior roles comprised working for 4 major employers including 3 research firms and 1 engineering firm, and of those only one research firm still exists. So going forward, Mr. Beal would like to expand his network and keep enhancing his firm's social science research services, while determining and tapping into emerging market forces. In addition, he brings on specialists for projects and clients that require specific research. Two key markets that Mr. Beal's research indicates will burgeon substantially over the next decade is Millenials and the Latino Market, and he asserts that a significant number of large companies aren't well-versed in this statistical reality, especially as the former enters the workforce in great numbers over the next few years. Overall, Mr. Beal feels very fortunate to do such interesting research, and one highlight of his career was participating in focus groups for six months for the Obama campaign. He is exceedingly proud of having contributed towards the complex process of electing the first African-American president. In his spare time Bruce enjoys gardening, including landscape, floral, and vegetable, and he also does canning. Mr. Beal is also an avid motorcycle rider, enjoys driving his MG sports car, and supports Heifer International.
