BIOGRAPHY

Gabriel Pliego is the founder and Dean of the School of Fine Arts which he established 2 years ago at the Universidad Panamericana. Mr. Pliego is responsible for every aspect of the school including programming, curriculum and its physical facilities. Gabriel is also the owner and CEO of a publishing company that produces music education materials. Gabriel completed his Ph.D. in Musicology from Salamanca, Spain and his Master's in Music from Carnegie Mellon University. Gabriel began his music career studying piano with his mother when he was just 4 years old and later took up violin when he was 8 and music became his life. He has been a member of numerous musical ensembles including the ONIX, the leading contemporary music ensemble of Mexico of which he was a founding member. In his current role, Mr. Pliego created a curriculum for a Bachelor's Degree in Music and Innovation. This program has been tailored for students to become successful entrepreneurs in meeting the professional needs of the music business. One aspect is combining the study and performance of popular and classic music Most of the students are from Mexico and more students are beginning to apply from other Latin American nations. Gabriel is developing a program in film and cinematography for the school, Gabriel hopes to become the first Latin American President of the Suzuki Association of the Americas in 2017. He is very proud of having founded the School of Fine Arts at the Universidad Panamericana and achieving his Ph.D. at the same time as fulfilling family obligations. Gabriel attributes his success to having a passion for what he does, being prepared and knowledgeable and working very hard. He supports efforts to give music resources to children who might otherwise not be able to afford them. Organizations he supports in this regard include the Fundaccion Cederos and the Suzuki Method Mexican Association.
