Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Dr. Joanna Cichy

Joanna Cichy received her PhD degree in Biochemistry from the Jagiellonian University in 1995. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Wistar Institute, USA and a visiting scholar at Stanford University, USA. She is Professor and Department Head of Immunology at Jagiellonian University, Faculty of Biochememistry, Biophysics & Biotechnology.

Her research interests have centered on the role of proteases and protease inhibitors in shaping immune responses and in pathogenesis of auto-inflammatory diseases, including psoriasis. She is a recipient of several national and international awards, including Fulbright Award and FIRCA (Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award). Currently she holds an appointment as a Professor and Head of Dept. of Immunology at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

She is a Member of the American Association of Immunology and Poland Association of Immunology. She is a Fullbright Scholar, Stanford University for Cancer Research Immunology (1988). She was awarded a Gold Medal from the President of Poland Award (2011), Scientific Achievement Award (2011), Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Wistar Institute.

In her spare time she enjoys travel, reading, and classical music. She resides in Cracow, Poland.
