BIOGRAPHY
Harris Frankel, M.D. direction and leadership for a The Nebraska Medical Center - Clinical Enterprise is noted in facilitating medical staff interactions with Hospital Administration and the governing board and to assure effective and Dr. Frankel is renowned for his efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission and vision of The Nebraska Medical Center. His primary responsibilities include oversight of programs relating to strategic science and innovation, strategic affairs and reporting, the development of science and preparedness policy, human resources, communications, and organizational marketing. He has been the architect of models that improve quality, safety and affordability. Dr. Frankel is instrumental in developing innovative contracting approaches linking hospital reimbursement to quality, safety and clinical performance. In addition, he guided an extensive set of public and private sector partnerships which have improved community health. He collaborates with industry leaders, physicians, hospitals and national policy and health care organizations to shape an agenda for quality, safety and clinical outcomes and to improve patient care for Nebraska's 1.882 million medical members nationwide. In addition, Dr. Frankel works closely with Omaha's business units to advance innovative health care services strategies. After nearly 21 years of private practice in Neurology, Dr. Frankel then joined the Department of Neurological Sciences at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center. He is a member of the active staff of the Nebraska Medical Center and serves as medical director for the UNMC-Physicians Clinical Neurosciences Center. He joined the Executive Leadership Team of The Nebraska Medical Center in January 2014. Dr. Harris Frankel received "Physician Advocate of the Year Award" which is a prestigious national award recognized for his work with health information exchange in Nebraska from the eHealth Initiative, a national organization committed to quality, safety, and efficiency of health care through information technology. Dr. Frankel received the award for his leadership and commitment to technological advancements leading to the implementation of NeHII. Beginning in 2005, Dr. Frankel championed the development of NeHII and led its pilot implementation in March 2009. Under his direction, NeHII has grown to encompass 60 percent of the Nebraska population. "Dr. Frankel's tireless effort in bringing both physicians and consumers into the NeHII program is commendable," said Nebraska Govenor Dave Heineman. "NeHII is a perfect example of how technology and citizens alike can provide better efficiency and accessibility and improve safety and security in the delivery of health care. Dr. Frankel has served as a catalyst in bringing these important components together to realize the benefits of NeHII." Dr. Frankel is board certified in the specialty of Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. as well as a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Academy of Neurology, the Nebraska Academy of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and the American Medical Association. He is a past President of the Metropolitan Omaha Medical Society and is President Elect of the Nebraska Medical Association. He is Past President of the Nebraska Health Information Initiative, Inc. (NeHII) and he has chaired the committees on Medicare and Electronic Health Records Task Force for the Nebraska Medical Association. He has also served as a member of the Association’s Healthcare Reform Task Force. He is past chair of the Professional Advisory Committee of the Midlands Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society with whom he has also been a member of the National Medical Advisory Board. Prior to joining the faculty of UNMC, he was a trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation and served as a member its Development Committee, chairing the subcommittee on Alumni Relations.
