Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Bob Bakko, LCPC, CCMHC, PC

Dr. Robert “Bob” Bakko is a highly experience Psychotherapist and co-founder of the Northwest Counseling Center, LLC. With over 41 years of experience in psychotherapy, counseling and the mental health sector, Bob has built his practice to include both the faith-based application of theology, and the general practice of clinical counseling as it relates to modern behavioral science. By incorporating incorporates insight and process theory, object relation theory, cognitive behavioral theory, problem solving, a touch of existential theory, Gottman Couples Therapy, and a myriad of other techniques, Bob helps clients examine the systematic role that scripture, relationships and the faith community can play in their spiritual and psychological growth.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Criminology from the University of Montana, Bob went on to complete a Master of Counseling from Luther Theological Seminary, graduating in 1975. Dr. Robert then continued on to receive his Doctorate of Ministry from Covington Theological Seminary, in which he graduated class of 1991.

Prior to co-founding Northwest Counseling Center LLC, Bob worked in the Department of Psychological and Social Work Services at School District #2 in Billings from 1975-84. His general practice includes counseling adults, adolescents and couples. The practice specializes in group counseling, and forensic evaluations for victims of domestic and sexual violence, and men and women who has served in the military. He works with those who have experienced “the darkness of trauma,” and specializes in assessing and helping individuals who are struggling and couples going through tough challenges.

In addition to his membership in WANA, a lifetime of service and dedication to excellence has rewarded him with membership in a number of elite professional associations. These include the National Association of Forensic Counselors, Association For Treatment of Sexual Abusers, American Association of Christian Counselors, National Board of Certified Counselors, Montana Mental Health Association, and the Coalition for Christians in Private Practice. Bob is also a Lifetime Member and Past President of the American Mental Health Counselors Association and the Montana Clinical Mental Health Counselors Association, and he is a former Governing Council member of the American Counseling Association.

Bob and his wife Jan, of more than 40 years, reside in Billings, Montana, where they are enthusiastic parents and grandparents, and pillars of their community. Outside of their professional endeavors, the two enjoy the great outdoors by visiting Yellowstone National Park or appreciating the world class hiking that Montana offers, whenever possible.
